A visionary in the Avenue of designing jewellery, Asha Sebastian Mattathil embarked on this novel journey whilst looking for jewels for her own wedding. Disillusioned with the existing trends, taking matter into her own hands quite literally, she designed the ensemble that she adorned on her nuptial. Fate aligned as she had married into the Mattathil family, who had been in the jewellery business for decades. Soon Asha Sebastian Mattathil etched her brilliantly unique designs that actualized through the hands of skilled karigars.
For Asha Sebastian Mattathil - "The Artist Jeweller", the design process is simple. From the most intricate of motifs to minimalistic contemporary patterns, design comes to her. But jewellery designing is more than the sketching process - a precious metal like Gold has its own nuanced character. A nature that which is to be kept in mind with each detail is envisioned. The malleability, ductility, hue and tone, all has to be considered before the addition of every nook or jewel. Professionally trained by the GIA (Gemmological Institute of America), Asha Sebastian Mattathil has been designing bespoke, one of a kind pieces for almost 30 years.
Focusing predominantly on Antique jewellery, Mughal-era jewellery, unique Meenakari work & brocade gold jewellery, modern renditions of heritage classics such as the ‘Coin Mala’ or the ‘Kilimala’ is also her forte. With her conviction that states that every design is to be “delicate and expertly crafted, providing delight to the eyes”, Asha Sebastian Mattathil conjures designs that are effortlessly elegant and eternally timeless.
